With quality farrier care which he
had briefly while with me, he appears mechanically
lame only, with no significant pain signs. He trots
and canters and lunges beautifully, with lameness
present. He loves going for a walk to eat grass and
explore.
Smokey is very easy to handle and is about 16 hands.
He got along well with my retired gelding. He needs
socialiaztion with other horses as he was unfortunately
kept for some time with no horse contact.
The original rescuer did extensive rehab care on
his abscessed hooves which have done fairly well.
However due to some deformity and misshape along with
some onset of side bone, Smokey needs regular skilled
hoof care.
I used butte when having his feet done and with patience
he did very well. He had his teeth done and sheath
cleaned and eyes checked by Dr. Wood. He is currently
due for Ivermectrin and West Nile.
I believe Smokey would be an excellent candidate
for a therapeutic facility as he is calm and well
trained and would be good with people in the horse
therapy world (for ground work)
