Thatcher is a Bay Thoroughbred gelding, 17.2 hands, approx. 22 years old. He is very likeable, and has a hilarious personality, full of mischief in the best way. Thatcher has been out to pasture with four other horses for the past two years. He was ridden regularly by both children and adults before his pasture retirement and has done everything from three day eventing, hunter jumpers, dressage to lots of trail riding. I taught lessons to a five year old with him for years and he is great with kids in general. At this point, he can do low impact exercise (mellow trail riding and flatwork), but due to an injury from about 10 years ago, his right hind leg is a bit arthritic, so although he is perfectly sound, gentle work is better for him. He can be exceptionally frisky, but if he over does it, he will be still for a day or so. Flat to moderately hilly terrain is best. Ideally he will be a wonderful companion for someone younger or older, mare or gelding. He has been known to take youngsters “under his wing” and show them the ropes and is generally very agreeable with other horses/ benevolently dominant in the herd; gets along with all horses. He has no vices and excellent ground manners. He has good feet and has been unshod for the past 2 or so years, receiving natural hoof care, which seems to have increased the integrity of his hooves substantially. He has been my best friend since I was ten and I will only give him to the best home! Please consider him.
